Minerals

Minerals are more important for the working of our body than vitamins because our body is not able to absorb vitamins without minerals. Like vitamins, minerals are essential and cannot be produced by our body. The concentration of the substances depends on age, gender, hormones, consumption of alcohol and cigarettes. Above all, food pattern is very important. Frequently, older people suffer from a lack of minerals owing to the fact that their digestion no longer works properly. Athletes and sick people are also affected by this because their need as regards minerals is much higher. Important minerals are: sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, iron, iodine and fluorine.

Minerals are responsible for many tasks in our body.

  • Sodium ensures healthy teeth, strong bones as well as a regular heartbeat.
  • Iron makes you more resistant against diseases and prevents states of exhaus-tions.
  • Magnesium helps to fight depressions and prevents muscle cramps.
  • Phosphorus contributes to metabolism of fats and provides your body with power and energy.
  • Potassium lowers your blood pressure and helps to degrade harmful substances in your body.
  • Sodium helps muscles and nerves to work properly.

These are only some of the tasks which minerals are responsible for.
